Bella Skin Care Facial Review - My penny wise pound foolish tale @ 21:42
I never had a usual facial place and was always on the go, trying out new places to review. This time, I saw an advert on the Flowerpod forum and thought I gave Bell a try since my girlfriend had been raving about them too.
It states there '$18 for microdermabrasion for 1st-timers'.
And yes, don't be fooled like I did.
You get only the microdermabrasion for $18 but you'll need to pay for the facial.
Because the treatment alone would last less than 15minutes and it did not make much sense to do a diamond peel (aka microdermabrasion) without the proper facial routine.
So I was told by the beauty advisor that there were 2 types of facial offered at Bella.
The basic one was $68+ and the more intensive one was $98+; being that it included an extra mask and the cold compressor.
I was having a breakout at the time of visit and the pretty advisor went on about my dull and uneven complexion, my clogged pores and dry skin. I felt like the ugliest thing on earth and was coaxed into trying the $98+ facial and adding the $18 for the sonic peeling. As she said my skin condition was dry, the sonic peeling would be more appropriate than the microdermabrasion. Anyway, I made an appointment for the day after and the whole facial was surprisingly not bad.
FIrstly, I was asked to inhale something, I think it was some aromatherapy thingy before the whole facial started. Next, the therapist did the usuals for a facial. She cleansed my face and followed up with a scrub before she had the steaming machine infront of my face. I like having my pores steamed but the procedure is kinda uncomfortable as I found it difficult to breathe.
But anyway, it did help open up the pores and allowed extraction to be almost painless. The first time I did not even tear at all! Amazing!
And she did the hand parafin wax for me too.
I can't remember the steps but I think the sonic peeling was done before the extraction. It's similar to the diamond peel, I think they use the same machine.
After that, I topped up another $68+ for the ampoule. Oh yes, this one is like daylight robbery and I wonder why was I so dumb to allow that to happen. But I guess cuz my face was 'rotting' and I believed every single word she said about the ampoule.
After the extraction, there was the mask and then the cold iron compressor and another mask if I recall correctly. They also tidied up my brows for me so all in all, yes, it's a pricey experience but a pampering one too.

Win a trip to New York with Maybelline! @ 20:42

If you've not gotten your Maybelline Angelfit foundation & jewel sticker kit.
Then what are you waiting for!?!?
Right now, there's a contest in which you get to bling up your foundation case and also to travel to NY if yours is the winning entry.
This foundation which contains unique & special ingredients such as Chamomile Essence, Royal Jelly and Vitamin E, is said to be specially developed to suit Asian women's skin.
It's quite huge in Japan, with Miss Universe Japan 2006 Kurara Chibana as the endorser.

So what makes this foundation different from the rest?
Well, it boasts of revolutionary ultra-light 'micro thin oxy powders' that blends onto your skin perfectly regardless of the layers you pile on without giving you that cakey or patchy feeling. And it claims to even cover up flaws and is non-clogging to your pores as well. Sounds like a dream come true, yeah? :)
I can't wait to try it out but the shade I've got might be too dark.
I'm checking with Maybelline if I can use the OC3 (darkest shade) if I'm using W02 (not darkest shade) for their Pure Mineral powder. I know I look pretty tanned now but seriously, I am not sure if OC3 is really my shade.

Anyway, for details on how to join the contest for that awesome trip to NY, do check out the following:

Step 1: Bejewel your Angel Fit Two-Way Foundation casing with diamante stickers and make it one-of-a-kind!
You may use your own diamante stickers on top of those provided in the Dazzling Radiance set.
Step 2: Take a photo of your handicraft.
Step 3: Access Maybelline’s Dazzling Radiance Facebook Fan Page and complete the contest form here.
Step 4: Upload the photo to Maybelline’s Dazzling Radiance Facebook Fan Page. (Keep your receipt for purchase of Angel Fit Two-Way Foundation / Dazzling Radiance set safe! You’ll need it to redeem your prize!)
NOTE: Please submit a .JPG or .GIF file of maximum 1MB in size.

1st Prize: 1 pair of return tickets to New York
2nd Prize: 1 iPod Shuffle & a Maybelline product hamper worth $250

Etude O2 White Mask Tub Review @ 20:52
What? Etude House o2 Mask White (Tub)
Where to buy? Etude House
How much? SGD $25.90 for 100ml
Previously, I reviewed the freebie masks Etude House gave out which were so unfortunately, not available for sale at all.
And I loved them!
You can check out my previous review
HERENow, I've gotten the tub version; which is the only one in the market.
I don't understand why they had to discontinue the sheet mask version.
But anyway, a tub version is better than nothing!
I saw this ad online and was wondering if there's any truth in it.
Like can it really whiten your skin to that extent?!?

And guess what?! It really does!
I tried it on my so-tanned-that-I-look-like-a-beach-goddess arm and it did show a
much lighter patch on the area where I'd left the mask on for 10 minutes.
Unfortunately, I couldn't capture it properly in photo though I did try!
So give me some credit for the failed attempt at least. LOL.
Thing is how long will this last?
Would the lighter tone remain or would it be gone in a day or even a few hours?
That will be yet another discovery I've got to make.
So stay tuned, I hope I'll be able to update soon.
Right now, I'm gonna apply it to the whole of both arms.
Seriously, I'm not exactly into that whole beach girl look :P

ACNES Mentholatum Cleanser Review @ 14:37
What? ACNES Mentholatum Cleanser
Where to buy? Watsons
How much? SGD $6.90 for 100ml

Firstly, I apologize for the lack of updates.
I've been spending most of my time working and resting (aka sleeping).
Anyway, it has been a MONTH since I've tried out the ACNES mentholatum cleanser.
Yes, my other cleansers are feeling alittle neglected now. LOL.
Remember I had the allergic breakout back then when I first received the ACNES
cleanser hamper?
VIEW HERESo I went for a facial at BELLA SKIN, I'll blog about it later.
Anyway, sad to say, it didn't exactly subside immediately.
But I've been using the ACNES mentholatum cleanser daily without fail.
Firstly, I think it smells great; some minty lemon scent.
And secondly, it doesn't sting your eyes like how some cleansers do.
What's more, it contains Vitamin C & E??
How cool is that!
So till now, I hardly have a spot but of course, it's due to a number of factors.
You can't just rely on a cleanser alone to minimize breakouts.
Remember to have enough sleep, drink sufficient water, watch that diet and apply suitable products for your skin.

DHC in Singapore @ 01:12

DHC is now available in SINGAPORE!
It can be found at Watsons Ngee Ann City, Bugis Junction, Compass Point, Raffles City & Ion stores.
Hmm... why Compass Point? Why not Jurong Point or North Point etc?
Anyway, I am not sure of the price difference.
Is it cheaper overseas or the price range is comparable in SG's stores?
Update me if you happen to drop by any of the above mentioned Watsons :)

ACNES blogger campaign @ 01:47
I collected my ACNES hamper the other day.
It's a really small hamper LOL.

Anyway, I was thinking to myself, I had no acne so how would it help.
Then lo and behold, I got that bad skin allergy reaction and what's worst is that
it is not getting any better.
It seems to just erupt on every Sunday. This is the 2nd Sunday so it is like a relapse!
I've not started on the ACNES cleanser YET but I will probably soon and I hope
that the spots on my face would disappear soon.
I get so depressed seeing my face turn out like that when it was once near flawless :(

L'oreal Presents: Derma Genesis Pore Smoother Gel Cream @ 00:59
It was really nice of Cozycot & L'oreal (Stella) to invite me to the L'oreal Preview of the Derma Genesis Pore Smoother. I brought fellow beauty enthusiast; HM along and we had a smashing great time with the girls.

It was a cosy, intimate lunch session held at the Forlino restaurant of One Fullerton with fellow cotters, bloggers and the L'oreal ladies, Adeline & Stella.
We shared about our skincare regimes and chatted pretty much about everything and anything else 'under the sun' over a sumptuous 6 course meal.

The Serena room of Forlino is beautiful with a breathtaking view of the river and still-under-constructions-IR. I'm still waiting for the group photos from Stella.

We met Beatrice (MJ blogger & model for Bonitochico LJ) and Debbie (another blogger too). Both were really sweet & nice ladies :)
There was even a manicurist to help us do our nails too. Pity, I didn't get to try that out :( I also left earlier and missed out on the rest of the chit-chat and the strawberry ice-cream.
Anyway, here's what you've been waiting for.
More about this highly anticipated range by L'oreal.
As you all know, I'm a big fan of the Derma Genesis range and even
Beauty Boff of Times UK Beauty has given its a high 4/5 stars rating!
Read about it
HERE
There're 3 products in this range; the cleanser scrub, toner & moisturizer.
3 simple easy steps to pore-free skin!
The previous derma genesis contained Hyaluronic Acid & Pro-Xylane which are a powerful combination that creates cellular environment for brigher and tigher skin.
Now on top of that, the Pore Smoother gel cream contains a NEW active micro-smoother that smoothens the skin by refining the pores, cell by cell. Interesting & innovative, isn't it?
So now, not only you get refreshed-looking skin thanks to the goodness of HA & Pro-X, you also will get minimized pores because of this new ingredient!

It was really sweet of L'oreal to present us with the full-size range to try out and I can't wait to. But first, I've got to finish up my current Derma Genesis collection. LOL!
Anyway, its official launch is in November but you can find these in stores at Watsons for now.

The scrub is going for $14.90 for 100ml. It can be used 2-3 times a week but
is also gentle enough to be used daily as well.
The toner is priced at $15.90 for 200ml and the star product; the gel cream is
priced at a very affordable $29.90 for 50ml.
I tried the gel cream and I like how light in texture it is. As some of you would know, the Derma Gensis Day/Night cream is already pretty light in texture and easily absorbed. So is this gel cream which probably is also lighter in texture than the day/night cream! Both still carry the same refreshing scent that is unique to Derma Genesis products.
Just head down to Watsons to try out the testers and you'll get what I mean :)

Allergic reaction @ 22:04
I had another allergic reaction.
Culprit could most likely be the Superdrug tea tree wipes.
Anyway, it was worst then the previous time.
And I went to see a GP, was prescribed Mupirocin Ointment USP.
I googled alittle and found out that it works well on pimples too;
according to acne.org
However, in my personal opinion, BP 2.5% still works best on pimples!
Currently, it has cleared up but there's quite abit of scars *SOBS*
So I'm using only aloe vera gel on them.

October - Month of Goodies @ 08:31
Hi folks, sorry for the hiatus.
It has been real crazy period for me.
I've been going through ups and downs.
Finally, found a new job...
But leaving the current company would mean that a compensation is required.
It isn't easy working for free and each day, I practically have to drag myself to
work.
Anyway, in life, you win some and lose some.
October is proving to be a fulfilling freebie month for me.
So just to share the joy.
I won this Kenzo set from Cleo's May giveaway:

It consists of:
Kenzo Le Monde Est Beau 30ML
SENSUAL BENEFICIAL WATER 100ML
FONDANT RICE LOTION 100ML
L'EAUPARKENZO HOMME EAU INDIGO 50ML
Flower By Kenzo Spring Fragrance 50ML
I also got the RADOX goodie hamper:

It consists of:
All 3 'flavors' of the Radox Smoothie Wash
Towel
Fresh-In Insoles
Then there's the Cozycot Mystery Goodie Bag for being in the top 50 referrals.

It consists of:
Bioessence Youth Radiance Essence (Full size)
Shokubutsu Body Foam Wash (Travel Size)
Dermalogica Soothing Spray (Travel Size)
Girl2Go Beauty Pouch
Girl2Go Beauty Pocket Mirror
Girl2Go Nail Polish Remover
Girl2Go Eye Makeup Remover
Fasio Be A Star set (Lipstick, E/S & Nail Polish)
And just awhile go, I received an email from Fr3b stating that I've won myself an ACNES Creamy wash hamper as I am selected for ACNES blogger campaign of the year.
It better be good and just consist a facial wash alone since it's stated 'HAMPER'.
It sure feels good to get such freebies but then again, my bedroom's getting too crowded for all of them. I'm having problems finding space to store them, might need to use the other Watsons storage bag I got sometime back. AIYO!!!

Sunsilk's new range for damage hair @ 21:12
Sunsilk's Damaged Hair Reconstruction Program
"SINGAPORE - Haircare brand Sunsilk has partnered with airline Jetstar Asia to promote its newly launched damaged hair reconstruction range.
As part of this partnership, air stewardesses on-board Jetstar Asia and Valuair flights starting from Singapore will give a live demonstration of the brand’s new range of products.
The activation, which will continue until September, is part of a recently launched campaign, which consists of a TVC, OOH, print and online. A website specifically targeted at Singaporean women has also been launched to support the campaign.
Tina Koh, brand manager of home personal care at Unilever Singapore, said that the brand hopes to create a unique and distinctive experience for consumers to interact with the new range of products.
“Jetstar offers a unique and captivating environment that allows us to reach out to the masses and educate consumers on the usage and benefits of post-wash haircare - and giving them a compelling reason to care more for their hair.”
Chong Phit Lian, CEO of Jetstar Asia and Valuair, argued that it is a win-win for Sunsilk and Jetstar passengers. “One need not miss new product launches now even while during air travel,” he commented.
The trial kits of the new products will also be handed out to all female passengers on-board. "They had this new campaign in JUNE and it's no wonder, I heard the cabin crew giving a short intro on Sunsilk products on my Jetstar flight back to Singapore BUT so unfortunate for me, there weren't any trial kits given out!?!
Apart from Silkpro, I love Sunsilk hair products as I feel that they do work for me and are very reasonably priced.
Thanks to Sunsilk/Unilever and Cozycot, I'm given the opportunity to try out part of their latest range in retail size!

As you can, comparing the first photo and this one, I'm missing out on the conditioner and the leave-on conditioner.
Anyway, I have really damaged hair, hair that has been dyed and then rebonded and then dyed again. So really, I can't wait to start using this as it promises to restore damaged hair in 10 days time!

There's also this virtual salon as part of their whole new campaign, where you'll be educated more on this latest range and also request for a sample kit.

Mandom Cleansing Express Moist Review @ 08:11
What? Mandom Cleansing Express Moist
Where to buy? Watsons
How much? $18.90

This is a makeup remover which I've been dying to try.
It's water-based so no greasy residue on your face after cleansing :)
I've seen the adverts and read the reviews but remained a skeptic till
I got to try out the sample thanks to Cozycot & Mandom :)
OMG this is good stuff man!
It removes makeup even better than my favorite ZA foaming cleansing gel!
I'm sorry ZA but move aside for the Mandom Cleansing Express Moist.
This photo below shows me with eyeliner on after removing my false lashes.

After leaving on a cotton wool piece with the cleansing lotion on it on my eyelid area for 3-5 seconds and a quick swipe, the makeup is gone!
I did not even need to rub it off or whatever.
And I usually have trouble getting the false lashes glue residue off but with
this, it comes off without much effort.

I'm a convert!
Removing makeup is a breeze with this cleansing lotion.
It's up next on my shopping list after I run out of the Bioderma toner and when my shopping ban ends. :)

Paula Begoun: Do toners tone? @ 17:15
I thought this was an interesting article that might be helpful for all :)
Do toners tone?
By Paula Begoun
In reality, toners—also referred to as astringents, clarifiers, refiners, fresheners, and tonics—don’t tone anything. At least not by the dictionary definition of “tone,” which refers to the “normal firmness of a tissue or an organ.” The term “toner” is a caprice invented by the cosmetics industry and, therefore, it can mean anything they want it to. I have heard that toners do everything from balance the skin and close pores to deep-clean and prepare the skin for other products. They do none of that. In fact, toners of any kind do not close pores, they do not deep-clean pores, and they do not reduce oil production. If toners could do any of that, given the repeated daily use of these items by most women, who would have a visible pore left on their face?
There are no ingredients in toners that can firm skin and return it to its normal state. What well-formulated toners can do is help reduce inflammation, add antioxidants, skin-identical ingredients, and cell-communicating ingredients to skin, soothe skin after cleansing, help remove any last traces of makeup, and impart some lightweight moisturizing ingredients to skin. All of those things can have a beautiful, significant impact on the appearance of your skin and can make a huge difference but you still haven’t “toned” anything. Nevertheless, the word “toner” has stuck and is commonly accepted by consumers which is why it is used so often in the cosmetics industry.
Regrettably, not all toners are created equal, and many are terribly formulated, especially those containing alcohol, meaning they have a real capacity to cause irritation, redness, and dryness. No matter what toners are called (astringent, freshener, pore cleanser, clarifying lotion, witch hazel, and so on), and whether they are inexpensive or expensive—if they contain irritants they are bad for skin.
When toners don’t contain irritants they can still fall flat when they are poorly formulated and lack any real beneficial ingredients for skin (such as antioxidants, skin-identical ingredients, or cell-communicating ingredients). Your toner should not only be free of irritants but it should also be filled with state-of-the-art ingredients for your skin. If they’re not, why bother (especially if the toner you’re considering is expensive)?
It is best if the toner is fragrance-free, but those are hard to find. I am also pleased to state that all of the toners in my Paula’s Choice line meet the standards outlined above for what a state-of-the-art toner needs to be effective for skin.
Summary: Many irritant-free toners are a fine alternative as an extra cleansing step after cleaning the skin with a water-soluble cleanser. Toners won’t close pores and they won’t deep-clean, but depending on the formulation they can leave the face feeling soft and smooth, remove the last traces of makeup or oil, reduce or eliminate irritation, provide antioxidant protection, soothe the skin, and lightly moisturize skin. For some skin types, a toner can be the only moisturizer you need to use (especially during summer).
Basic directions: After cleansing the face, soak a large cotton ball or pad with the toner and gently stroke it over the face and neck. Do not rinse.

Back from Hongkong @ 08:39
I've not been updating as I've just got back from Hongkong.
And surprisingly, I bought more clothings and cutesy items than compared
to beauty products!!!
Oh well, maybe it's not that surprising after all since I still have
alot of skincare products. Enough to last me till 2011!!!
Here's a collage of my loot:

For beauty products, I only managed to grab 2 packs of DHC samples.
Thanks to Jess's discount, I got 10% off.
I also got 3 tubes of BLACK false lashes glue.
It's so difficult to find BLACK glue in Singapore!
And my star buy would be the LANIEGE Hydra solution essence.
I went to the store and it was going for around Sgd70 after conversion.
Then I found it at Bourjous which is like Singapore's SASA too.
There was a discount and I paid only Sgd44 for it!
OMG! What a bargain!
I doubt I'll ever get it at sgd44 in Singapore unless it's a staff purchase
or something. :)))))))

Clinique 3 Step Skincare Review @ 17:07
Picture used for illustration purpose onlyDid you know that you could just go down to any Clinique counter to get a
free skin analysis and also their 3-step sample kit?
Well, I've gotten mine and here's my testimonial.
I do care a lot about my skin and do want to achieve beautiful, clear skin. However, after a long day at work, I am not too motivated to follow through a complicated skincare regime. Thus, I’m grateful for Clinique in making it all so hassle-free with just 3 steps.
I like how the Clinique’s skin care system has a customized range for every skin type. The cleanser is refreshing, an excellent product to start your day with.
However, I find the scent a tad bit too medicinal and strong at times.
But there's no doubt about it's cleansing capabilities.
I’m also impressed to find that there are a total of 8 types of toners. The Clarifying Lotion 3 did not work for me but I was glad to find an alternative; the Clarifying Moisturize Lotion 3 version, which was much gentler. CL2 stung my skin real bad and I've been reading forums, some say it's normal to sting a little.
However, for me, it was so painful and too much. I think I'll stick to the CML version. The toner would be my favorite product of the lot!
The Dramatically Different Moisturizer did not disappoint as well.
It was lightweight and quickly absorbed upon application.
Once again, I'm not a fan of the scent. Really smelled medicinal to me.
Anyway, there were no negative results from using the 3-step system.
No breakouts or purging! Phew!
It seems to be working fine on me :)
I find that my skin is clearer and even makeup stays on longer too.
I am able to stay fresh-faced the whole day.

Does this work: Tri-Aktiline Instant Deep Wrinkle Filler @ 16:58
Just to share a review from my favourite site.
Beauty Boff by The Times UKI've gotten this long ago for a product review.
However, I've been using it on and off only so I can't really gauge much from
my infrequent usage.

It can be found at Guardian Stores islandwide and is retailing for around SGD60-70+ I believe. Quite a pricey drugstore product I must say.
Hence, it would be good to read more on it if you're contemplating the buy.
Though it seems poorly rated in the review below, I have to add on that I've read pretty good reviews about it elsewhere though.
Therefore, a search on google would be good if you wish to continue your research on the Tri-Aktiline Instant Deep Wrinkle Filler.
They say “In one compound you get instant wrinkle-filling science plus a complex of three technologically advanced ingredients.”
We say Its three key ingredients are gatuline, extracted from the South American Acmella oleracea plant ; kombuchka, derived from black tea; and argirline, a peptide. Gatuline relaxes facial muscles, and hence reduces the appearance of wrinkles, says the manufacturer; yet there is no publicly available data to support this. Kombuchka may have antioxidant properties, which could help to prevent lines, says Dr Tamara Griffiths, a dermatologist for the British Skin Foundation, but its effect on skin has not been fully investigated. Good Skin Labs, the cream’s manufacturer, however, claims that it improved skin complexion in experiments. Argirline, Dr Griffiths suggests, may also relax facial muscles, but has done so only in the manufactuer’s test-tube studies. The cream reduced wrinkle length and depth in in-house studies, but the scientists didn’t use a control cream, so it’s hard to know whether this was caused by the action of the ingredients or simply by the skin being moisturised.
Feel-good factor: Easily absorbed; fragrance-free.

SK II Private Sale @ 09:06

Sign up for the private sale
HEREBTW, has everyone collected their SK II 30ml sample of the facial treatment essence yet?
I've read that most counters ran out of it during the first day of collection.
Unbelievable, right?
But I was lucky enough to collect mine at Tangs Orchard :)
Much contrary to some reviews online, it did not stink at all and in fact,
I find the scent of the product pretty calming.
I use it like how I would use a toner and today's just the second night only.
I wonder if I'll see any significant results soon?
After all, it's not nicknamed 'Miracle essence' for nothing, right? ;)

Kawaii Tokyo Brighten-Up Junsui @ 05:53

I've been joining numerous Kawaii Tokyo campaigns and I've finally won something from them! Honestly, I was eyeing their first product, the all-in-one Brighten up gel.
However, I've not been lucky until today.
It was indeed a pleasant surprise. I've gotten a parcel and had no clue for what reason till I ripped it apart! LOL!

Haha, found that funny!
Voila!
This product sounds promising from their webpage.
Facial mists are great for refreshing your skin on a hot, humid afternoon or even when you're stuck indoors in an air-conditioned environment. This will help you hydrate your skin.

Etude O2 White Mask Sheet Review @ 07:01
What? O2 White Mask Sheet
Where to buy? Etude House but not available for sale
How much? Not for sale
Sadly, this is not for sale but only available as a freebie.
They have the ones in a tub, the wash off kind for sale as an alternative.
More information about the tub ones can be found
here
I was elated when I saw them giving it out on Monday as a freebie.
The O2 white mask sheet was calling out to me.
I felt compelled to go grab one. After all, it was free.
So I just tried one on after cleansing my face from makeup.
I left it on for around 20 minutes because I lost track of time.
The instructions behind read 10-15 minutes.
Anyway, one thing I really like about this mask is that it was not
dripping with essence when I opened it.
I hate those sheet masks which makes DIY masking such a messy chore with all
the goo dripping all over you after you try to fix it on.
The essence packed was adequate and just right.
There was even a little bit more left in the pack which I used on my neck.
So after 20 minutes, I was to surprised to see that it actually worked!
My skin appeared brighter and fairer.
Pores appeared smaller and less visible.
OMG this is good stuff man!
I'm a convert!
